The Edinburgh Anarcha-Feminist Collective is currently organising for Reclaim the Night which, this year, is going to take place on the 28th of May 2011 in Edinburgh. There is lots to get involved with and go along to, so put these dates in your diary now!

Firstly, we are planning on holding a film screening and info night to take place on the 27th of May, the day before Reclaim the Day & Night event. The film screening will focus on the issues that Reclaim the Night hopes to draw attention to. It will also be a chance to ask any questions about the events being held the following day, and an opportunity to meet other people who are involved.

Then, on the 28th of May there will be an exciting day of workshops on issues relating to patriarchal violence (please contact us if you would like to run a workshop!) More information on the Reclaim the Day program of workshops will be up here soon.

The reclaim the night march will take place that same evening, gathering at usher hall on Lothian road at 8:30pm to begin marching at 9:00pm. The march will be open to feminists of any gender, however there will be a self-identified women’s only space at the front of the march for those who wish to march in that space. The march will culminate in Bristo square at 10:00pm. There will be a banner making afternoon the weekend before the march, so come along and get involved!

There will then be a post-march gig to celebrate on the 28th of May! More information on this to come soon.

The event is so far being organised by three feminist groups who have decided to work together: Edinburgh Anarcha-Feminists, Ladyfest Edinburgh, and a small group of people from Edinburgh University who are organising under the Reclaim the Night banner. We would love for more people/groups to get involved to make this a real collaborative project which reaches out to lots of different people.

Edinburgh Anarcha-Feminists held a successful fundraiser on Wednesday the 6th of April at the Canonsgait pub. The “Night of Revolutionary Songs” saw a rebel rousing line up of spoken word, traditional rebel italian singing, guitar strumming riot folk grrls, dance inducing singing from friendly local peace activists, and spanish tunes of revolt to warm the soul. The atmosphere was jolly and there was much singing along and foot stomping late into the night!

The event was attended by several other anarchist groups from Edinburgh, including Coal Action Scotland, RAWA Solidarity Scotland, The Anarchist Federation, and Witches Revenge who all had stalls with promotional material, information, and ways to get involved in these other important campaigns. A raffle was held, which saw several winners taking home radical zines, anarchist films, a Witches Revenge CD, massages, tarot readings, sitar lessons and more.

The event was primarily an opportunity to spread the word about an upcoming Reclaim the Night event which is to take place on the 28th of May. The Edinburgh Anarcha-Feminist Collective is planning to hold a day of workshops, a march, and a post-march gig to celebrate the event, in collaboration with several other groups in Edinburgh. All the proceeds that were raised at the fundraiser on Wednesday (nearly £200) will go towards making Reclaim the Night happen. If you would like to get involved in helping to plan this event, please get in touch with us – we need your help and energy!

The Edinburgh Anarcha-Feminist Collective would like to thank everyone who came along to the fundraiser on Wednesday and helped to make it happen. In particular, big thanks to all the musicians who came and lent their voices and passion to the cause for free. Finally, thanks to everyone who cam along to support the collective in our efforts to raise money – we couldn’t put on anarcha-feminist events without you!
